ABSTRACT

Background Socioeconomic development,lifestyle changes and the COVID-19 pandemic all have an impact on people's mental and physical health,which may affect the prevalence of mental disorders. Currently,there is still no sufficient epidemiological information of mental disorders in Xinjiang. Objective To investigate the prevalence and influencing factors of common mental disorders among people aged 15 and above in northern Xinjiang,then compare the data with those of their counterparts in southern Xinjiang,and summarize the overall prevalence of common mental disorders in Xinjiang,providing a scientific basis for the formulation of corresponding mental health plans. Methods From November 2021 to July 2022,a multistage,stratified,random sampling method was used to select 3 853 residents from northern Xinjiang to attend a survey. General Demographic Questionnaire,and self-assessment scales(the 12-Item General Health Questionnaire,Mood Disorder Questionnaire,Symptom Checklist-90,etc.) and other assessment scales(Hamilton Depression Inventory,Bech-Rafaelsen Mania Rating Scale,Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale,etc.) were used as survey instruments. Mental disorders were diagnosed by the ICD-10 classification of mental and behavioral disorders by two psychiatrists with at least five years' working experience, or by a chief or associate chief psychiatrist when there is an inconsistency between the diagnoses made by the two psychiatrists. Results The point prevalence rate and age-adjusted rate of common mental disorders in northern Xinjiang were 9.71% (374/3 853) and 10.07%,respectively. The point prevalence rate and age-adjusted rate of common mental disorders in the whole Xinjiang were 9.69%(750/7 736)and 9.90%,respectively. The point prevalence rates of mood disorders,anxiety disorders,schizophrenia,organic mental disorders,and mental retardation in northern Xinjiang were 4.83%(374/7 736),3.63% (281/7 736),0.63%(49/7 736),0.23%(18/7 736),and 0.36%(28/7 736),respectively. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis for northern Xinjiang showed that:the risk of mood disorders in females was 1.854 times higher than that in males 〔95%CI(1.325,2.593)〕;The risk of mood disorders increased by 5.210 times in 25-34-year-olds 〔95%CI(1.348, 20.143)〕 and 3.863 times in 35-44-year-olds 〔95%CI(1.030,14.485)〕 compared with that in those aged ≥ 65 years;The risk of mood disorders increased by 0.199 times in those with high school or technical secondary school education 〔95%CI (0.078,0.509)〕 and 0.147 times in those with two- or three-year college and above education 〔95%CI(0.056,0.388)〕 compared with that in illiteracies. The risk of anxiety disorder in females was 1.627 times higher than that in males 〔95%CI (1.144, 2.315)〕;The risk of anxiety disorder increased by 0.257 times in 15-24-year-olds 〔95%CI(0.091,0.729)〕,0.243 times in 45-54-year-olds 〔95%CI(0.101,0.583)〕,and 0.210 times in 55-64-year-olds 〔95%CI(0.067,0.661)〕 compared to that of those aged ≥ 65 years old. The risk of schizophrenia among people living in villages or towns was 4.762 times higher than that of those living in cities 〔95%CI(1.705,13.300)〕;The risk of schizophrenia among people with high school or technical secondary school education was 0.079 times higher than that of illiteracies 〔95%CI(0.015,0.405)〕. Conclusion The prevalence of mood disorders and anxiety disorders is high among all types of mental disorders in Xinjiang. Females,rural people,or low educated people in northern Xinjiang are more prone to various types of mental disorders. © 2023 Chinese General Practice. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

On December 13, 2020, Yutian County People's hospital reported one imported malaria case in Hotan, Xinjiang. The patient had worked and lived in Yaounde, Cameroon, from January to September 2020. He was infected with malaria twice in March and May 2020. Antimalarial treatment was administrated by the team doctor for 2-3 days in each treatment. The treatment was stopped after the symptoms improved. The patient returned to China on September 16 and was hospitalized on December 13 due to a high fever of 39! and upper respiratory symptoms. Multiple detections of COVID-19 nucleic acid showed negative results. Peripheral blood from the patient was taken for Plasmodium rapid diagnostic test (RDT), which showed a positive result suggesting non Plasmodium falciparum infection. Ring stage P. ovale was found in the blood smear. Nested PCR showed positive for P. ovale. A diagnosis of imported ovale malaria was made. The patient was administrated with 4 dihydroartemisinin piperaquine tablets and 3 primaquine phosphate tablets daily. The malaria parasite test became negative after 8 days of treatment. ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate and analyze multiple detection of 13 kinds of viruses in 500 children with acute respiratory tract infection in Hami of Xinjiang. METHODS: A total of 500 children with acute respiratory tract infection treated in the hospital between Jan 2018 and Jan 2021 were enrolled. Thirteen kinds of respiratory infection viruses including human respiratory syncytial virus(RSV), human rhinovirus(hRV), respiratory adenovirus(AdV), influenza A and B viruses(Inf A, Inf B), parainfluenza virus(PIV 1/2/3), human enterovirus(hEV), human metapneumovirus(hMPV), human coronavirus(hCoV 229E/OC43) and human Boca virus(hBoV) were detected by multiple reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) amplification and capillary electrophoresis. And the results were compared with those by direct sequencing method. RESULTS: Of the 500 samples, 379 samples were positive(75.80%), and the top three detection rates were RSV(19.40%), hRV(16.00%) and Inf B(12.60%). The differences in positive rates of the respiratory virus among <1 year group, 1-3 years group and >3 years group were significant(84.97%, 77.47%, 65.45%)(P<0.05). The detection rate of RSV was the highest in <1 year group, and the detection rates of Inf A and Inf B were the highest in >3 years group. The differences in positive rates of respiratory viruses among the spring group, summer group, autumn group and winter group were significant(74.05%, 63.73%, 77.24%, 84.03%)(P<0.05). The detection rates of RSV, PIV 3, and hMPV were the highest in the winter group, and detection rate of AdV was the highest in spring group. CONCLUSION: RSV is the main infection virus in children with acute respiratory infection in Hami of Xinjiang. The distribution of respiratory viruses is related to age and onset season in children.

ABSTRACT

This study considers the Point of Interest data of tourism resources in Xinjiang and studies their spatial distribution by combining geospatial analysis methods, such as the average nearest neighbor index, standard deviation ellipse, kernel density analysis, and hotspot analysis, to explore their spatial distribution characteristics. Based on the analysis results, the following conclusions are made. Different categories of tourism resource sites have different spatial distributions, and all categories of tourism resources in Xinjiang are clustered in Urumqi city. The geological landscape resource sites are widely distributed and have a ring-shaped distribution in the desert area of southern Xinjiang. The biological landscape resources are distributed in a strip along the Tianshan Mountains. The water landscape resources are concentrated in the northern Xinjiang area. The site ruins are mostly distributed in the western region of Xinjiang. The distributions of the architectural landscape and entertainment and shopping resources are highly coupled with the distribution of cities. The distributions of the six categories of tourism resource points are in the northeast-southwest direction. The centripetal force and directional nature of the resource points of the water landscape are not obvious. The remaining five categories of resource points have their own characteristics. The distribution of resources in the site ruins is relatively even, and there are many hotspot areas in the geomantic and architectural landscapes, which are mainly concentrated in Bazhou and other places. The biological landscape has many cold-spot areas, distributed in areas such as Altai in northern Xinjiang and Hotan in southern Xinjiang. The remaining four categories have cold-spot and hotspot areas with different distributions. Tourism is an important thrust for economic development. The study of the distribution of tourism resources on the spatial distribution of tourism resources has clear guidance for later tourism development, can help the tourism industry optimize the layout of resources, and can promote tourism resources to achieve maximum benefits. The government can implement effective control and governance.

ABSTRACT

Tourism is more sensitive and susceptible in global arid regions to climate change than other sectors, and climate change mainly affects the behavior of tourists, selection of tourist destinations, tourism resources, and tourism safety. China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) is a representative area of the global arid region. To review its comprehensive impacts of climate change on tourism has indicative significance for the global arid region tourism industry to cope with climate change impacts. On the whole, the impacts of climate change on tourism in the XUAR will coexist with opportunities and challenges both at present and in the future. The XUAR is experiencing or will experience climatic process of warming and wetting. For the tourism climate comfort and extension of suitable travel period, the opportunities far outweigh the risks (high reliability). However, future climate change is expected to have great negative effects on cultural heritages, glacier and snow resources, and agricultural landscapes in arid areas of northwest China (high reliability). The above impacts are potential and long-term, and the measures should be taken as soon as possible to mitigate and adapt to climate change challenges to tourism.

ABSTRACT

In October 2021 (from 00: 00, 1 October to 24: 00, 31 October), a total of 523 006 cases of notifiable communicable diseases, including 2 040 deaths, were reported in China (except Hong Kong, Macao Special Administrative Regions and Taiwan Province, the same below). In communicable diseases in class A, 2 cases of cholera were reported without death. In communicable diseases in class B, no cases and no deaths of severe acute respiratory syndrome, poliomyelitis, human infection with highly pathogenic avian influenza virus, diphtheria and human infection with avian influenza A (H7N9) virus were reported. For the remaining 22 communicable diseases in class B, 249 605 cases were reported, a decrease of 8% compared with last month (272 332 cases) and a decrease of 3% compared with the same period in 2020 (258 591 cases). The first 5 diseases in terms of reported case number were viral hepatitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, syphilis, gonorrhea and AIDS, accounting for 95% of the total reported cases in class B. A total of 2 039 deaths were reported, a decrease of 6% (133 deaths) compared with last month (2 172 deaths) and an increase of 17% compared with the same period in 2020 (1 737 deaths). According to the website of the National Health Commission of China, a total of 1 081 confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported, without death, by 31 provinces (municipalities, autonomous regions) and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps from 00: 00, 1 October to 24: 00, 31 October, 2021. In class C communicable diseases, a total of 273 399 cases were reported, an increase of 20% compared with last month (228 597 cases) and a decrease of 13% compared with the same period in 2020 (315 366 cases). The first 3 diseases in terms of reported case number were hand foot and mouth disease (HFMD), other infectious diarrhea and influenza, accounting for 95% of the total reported cases in class C. Compared with last month, except filariasis which had no incidences in both months, the diseases with reported cases increases were HFMD (45 435 cases, 52%), influenza (17 811 cases, 50%) and rubella (11 cases, 12%), but the reported cases of other diseases all decreased, the diseases with obvious case decreases were other infectious diarrhea (16 519 cases, 18%), mumps (1 490 cases, 12%) and acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis (327 cases, 14%). Compared with the same period in 2020, except filariasis which had no incidences in both years, the diseases with reported case increases were influenza (33 177 cases, 164%), typhus fever (15 cases, 9%), rubella (8 cases, 9%) and leprosy (3 cases, 17%), but the diseases with reported case decreases were HFMD (65 002 cases, 33%), other infectious diarrhea (4 111 cases, 5%) and mumps (1 574 cases, 12%). One death caused by class C communicable diseases was reported, an increase of 1 death compared with last month and a decrease of 1 death compared with the same period in 2020 (2 deaths).

To study the trend of influenza and the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Kezhou, Xinjiang from 2013 to 2020. The data of influenza in Kezhou, Xinjiang from January 1, 2013, to December 31, 2020, were collected by the China Influenza Surveillance Information System to study the trend of ILI proportion, the distribution of influenza-like cases in different age groups, the positive cases and positive rate of influenza, and the trend of different influenza subtypes, and to analyze the impact of COVID-19 epidemic on influenza. The proportion of ILI in the Xinjiang Kezhou area was mainly children under 15 years old, and children under 5 years old accounted for the largest proportion. The proportion of ILI, the number of influenza-positive cases, and the influenza-positive proportion were mainly in winter and spring, especially in December and January each year. At the same time, this study found that the overall trend of H3N2 influenza in this region was on the rise, and the outbreaks in 2018 and 2019 were dominated by novel H1N1 and H3N2, respectively. The trend of influenza in Kezhou, Xinjiang is on the rise, and the prevention and control measures of COVID-19 have significantly reduced the data of influenza. It is necessary to strengthen the vaccination work and maintain the basic prevention and control measures of respiratory infectious diseases to prevent and control influenza more effectively.

ABSTRACT

Objective To fit the epidemic situation of COVID-19 in Urumqi City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in July 2020, so as to provide the quantitative and theoretical basis for the prevention and control of epidemic. Methods A dynamical model with stage control strategy was proposed using compartmental modeling method, based on the tracking and isolation measures taken during the COVID-19 epidemic in July 2020 in Urumqi City. The nonlinear least square method was applied to fit this dynamical model by using multi-source data: The cumulative number of confirmed cases, cured cases and asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 from Health Committee of Xinjiang from July to September 2020. Results The parameters of the model were estimated as follows: The rate of diagnosis was 0.6, the infectivity coefficients of latent exposure group and asymptomatic infection group were 0.78 and 0.99 respectively, and the proportion of asymptomatic infection group was 0.4. Parameter sensitivity analysis showed that increasing close tracking and isolation and reducing contact could effectively control the number of new confirmed cases. Conclusion The results show that the model has good fitting effect with the actual data;asymptomatic infection is more infectious;the trend of daily effective reproduction number shows that the government control measures are appropriate with great effect;the relevant departments should increase the close tracking and isolation, and continuously emphasize that reducing contact can effectively control the epidemic of COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

Concentrations of nine metals were measured in eight common cultured fish species obtained from forty-three aquatic product markets across three cities in Xinjiang province, to establish fingerprint characteristics and assess potential human health risks due to the consumption of fish. Metal levels ( µ g/kg, wet weight) in fish muscles were: 1204.88-5113.19 Al, 2.09-12.44 V, 6.10-31.86 Cr, 2368.80-8949.52 Fe, 2.01-10.26 Co, 4082.72-12785.68 Zn, 174.89-763.83 Cu, 0.33-2.24 Cd, and 5.74-9.90 Pb. Fingerprint analysis revealed that the studied fish species from the three cities exhibited a similar pattern of distribution. From the viewpoint of human health, the assessment of non-carcinogenic risk indicated no significant adverse health effects due to consumption of the assessed fish species.
